And believe it or not, our biggest challenges are not always the medical treatment of our patients. For many couples, the desire to have a family will be the strongest emotional drive in their lives. When this drive is thwarted by infertility, the emotional consequences can be devastating. Add to this that nearly 50% of reproductive age couples in the Chicago area do not have infertility benefits with their health insurance. The emotional and financial burdens created by infertility can often overwhelm couples before the medical treatment has had a chance to work.
